In the fall of 2000, the Central Rappahannock Regional Library received grant funding that allowed us to train Gayle Middle School teachers in read-aloud techniques in the classroom. View the Powerpoint presentation on the latest research and techniques in reading aloud that we used to introduce the workshop. Read-Aloud Handbook The Read-Aloud Handbook
Jim Trelease, known as the "guru" of the read-aloud movement, self-published his classic book "The Read-Aloud Handbook" in 1979 and has sold 1.6 million copies in four subsequent editions. Read Aloud Virginia Virginia's own read-aloud group, Read Aloud Virginia has information about how to become a read-aloud partner and includes recommended read-aloud titles.

Accelerated Reader is a self-paced, individualized computer-assisted reading program used in many of the public schools in our area. Children read books and then take computerized multiple-choice tests that measure their comprehension of the books. Click here to read more.
